Warmest greetings,
Our names are Julia Baldassarra and Alinah Charania and we are proud to be the current Co-Chairs of Queen’s Feminist Leadership in Politics (QFLIP), a not-for-profit organization which is based out of Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. Thank you for visiting our page, and we hope it will make you as excited about QFLIP as we are.
QFLIP was founded seven years ago by Caroline Marful and Rachel Tung. From the beginning, QFLIP has sought to empower young women and their allies to engage in the political sphere, a space that has historically been exclusive and male-dominated. Since then, the QFLIP community has expanded into an equity seeking organization with a reach spanning all across Canada. Through our annual conference, community activism, networking opportunities, and year-round events, QFLIP works to foster a community that provides students with knowledge, tools, and connections to promote gender equality and equal representation in politics and in their professional lives.
We firmly believe in the importance of advocating for intersectionality within the professional realm. This year, our goal is to make QFLIP an even more inclusive space to individuals of all genders, races, sexualities, ages, abilities, and classes in our community. We believe that over the last seven years, the political climate has changed so dramatically that conversations of representation and gender equality have evolved, and our activism must evolve with it. This begins by acknowledging that people of minority identities face even further marginalization in the political realm, and continuing to prioritize these lived experiences as an integral part of our mandate. As always, our entire team will continue to strive to create a non-partisan and equitable space for open discourse during all our initiatives
There is no set mould for what being a QFLIP community member looks like. There are many ways to get involved, from joining our executive team, becoming a brand ambassador, to attending our conference, submitting to our blog, or joining us for workshops! If you’re interested in joining the QFLIP community, please contact our team for more information. We always welcome new faces and ideas for building our movement. We hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Julia Baldassarra & Alinah Charania
